What’s the best way for businesses to contend with the COVID-19 fallout? Think and plan differently going forward, says global economist and London Business School Professor Andrew J Scott.

In a recent article, “Business in the Time of Covid,” Professor Scott offered sage advice to business leaders asking the question, “What now?”

Firms need to focus on robust rather than optimal policies. Optimal policy is when firms are confident about what the future brings, and they design policies to maximise those circumstances. Robust policies are those skewed not to exploiting the most likely future scenarios, but providing a defense against potentially bad outcomes,” explains Scott, a corporate and government advisor whose core research focuses on the economics of living a long life.

During a free webinar on April 16th, Professor Scott will continue to illuminate a light at the end of the tunnel by offering strategies and insights to businesses preparing for a post-crisis economy. The 60-minute presentation will draw on Scott’s years of experience advising governments on economic policy as well as his award-winning ability to take complex ideas and make them accessible.

Scott will also outline what the crisis means for the economy, what to expect (or not expect) going forward and how firms should be responding to the current crisis. Topics will include:

  • How is Covid-19 affecting the economy now and in the future?
  • What should firms look out for?
  • Will government policies work and what are the long-term implications?
  • What should businesses be doing now?
  • How does Covid-19 interact with an aging society?

Scott’s eagerly awaited book, “The New Long Life: A Framework for Flourishing in a Changing World” (Bloomsbury Publishing, May 2020) will provide clarity on how technological change and longevity together are requiring people to live differently and what we all need to do to seize the advantage.

His previous best-selling book,  “The 100 Year Life: Living and Working in an Age of Longevity” (2016), which sold half a million copies, was so well-received globally that it was the focus of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s commission “Design a 100 Year Life.” It also led to Scott establishing The Longevity Forum in Singapore, which brings together the extraordinary potential of scientific research around anti-aging with the behavioral and economic responses needed for longer lifespans.

Business leaders grappling with next steps should walk away from the webinar with a greater sense of clarity and direction. To register for Andrew Scott’s webinar, which begins at 1 PM British Summer Time (BST) in the UK, 8 AM Eastern Standard Time (EST) in the US, please click here.
